Geometrus 2 (Noonday Walk) (43”
x 28” - 110 cm x 71cm) May,
2005

|
I have been working with more
stylized landscape elements lately, because I wanted to see if the landscape
was still a landscape, with its moods and light, even with using one basic
shape; in this case, the rectangle. The triptych 'Geometrus' was the
result. This is second quilt in the series (also called Noonday Walk), and
it explores the use of highly
artificial, strongly coloured and embellished geometric trees in a partially
realistic setting with the river bank and the water. It is fascinating to me how the mind's eye still
sees the trees and the reflection, not just the lines and rectangles.
