Landscape Plus (beyond realism)

Class Sample
- based on my triptych quilt 'Geometrus' (click to see)

In this two-day workshop you will make a small contemporary quilt with a realistic feel.

You will use my small quilt as a template and add your own ideas.  With a small format of approximately 45x35 cm, you will learn key techniques and concepts for design, assembly and embellishment.

Working with a selection of my pre-made designs,  we will spend time with fabric selection and learn to use different machine appliqué and stitching techniques to achieve realistic effects. We will also start adding foreground features.

The focus of this class is on understanding and using the realism of a landscape quilt, yet using a geometric shape to make it more abstract.  In this class we will use triangles. I will demonstrate the use of perspective and you will learn to give realism and life to your quilt by adding additional natural features such as trees, shrubs, rocks etc. as well as more detail, using different embellishment techniques. A number of options will be demonstrated and discussed, so you can explore these techniques in the workshop or on your own in future quilt projects, such as perspective, light, surface texture etc,

You should be experienced with the basic process of piecing and finishing a quilt, and be familiar with your sewing machine. Free motion machine stitching experience would help, but is not a must.

Please contact me if you are interested, to discuss potential classes.
