Autumn
Leaves at Yosemite (76” x 52½
”) January, 2002
 |
I
experienced 10 of our National Parks and monuments in the autumn of
2001, and they are stunningly beautiful. This is the first quilt in a
planned National Parks series. At
Yosemite National Park, deep in the Tolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias,
these dogwood autumn leaves amazed me with their subtle pinks, pale
greens and vivid whites against the dark of the evergreen foliage,
almost as if rebelling
against the coming of winter. I wanted to capture that combination of
subtlety and strength, mystery and revelation.
