My first impression of Lake Mulwala was one of destruction, but then came an understanding of the rich fish and wildlife, and the life-giving water for the area along the Murray. I wanted to capture the beauty and subtle softness of the riverbank, underlying the starkness of the submerged trees.
An old wool 'Geelong Blanket' became my canvas, with felted wool threads as the brush strokes. Other odd materials were added as contrast, such as stressed plastic and strips of nylon tulle. The quilt is both machine and hand-stitched.
