Hawkesbury (138 x 111cm)    2011

Artists's statement

The landscape along the Hawkesbury river is fascinating, with its steep sandstone cliffs, topped by eucalypts and with trees and shrubs clinging in the crevasses. Seen from a boat on the river, from the train or a car crossing the bridges, it changes its mood with the light, the weather, the time of day and the seasons. I love the play of the intense purple of the Jacaranda tree against the vibrant orange rock.

Techniques used were machine appliqué and quilting, stenciling, painting, heat stressing and burning, using velvets, different laces, nylon tulle, batiks, ultra-suede, soft furnishing fabrics & fabrics hand painted by the artist.
